Things have been coming back to normal since last week and thanks goodness for that. My boyfriend and I have both been busy and making every effort to move forward. Here are a few things that have been happening as of lately:
We figured out our IRS bill. Yeah, that was not fun but its done now. Suffice it to say, it will take up a good bit of our savings. Can’t say I am very pleased about this, but we knew it was coming. The thing that really killed us was the rental income for our house. The good thing is that now the boyfriend’s checks are being taxed, and we will hopefully never have to deal with all this tax nonsense again. This also means that we are free to save for whatever we want and not have to worry about having to fork over thousands to the government at the end of the year. This is great because I will need a new laptop over the summer and it would be nice to be able to replace my car at some point. It is def. not getting any younger.
The tenants at our rental home have signed up for another 6 months! This is great as we really don’t have lots of money to spruce up the place for the next tenant. They may very well stay for the entire year so that would be wonderful as they are such awesome people. If you have ever rented out your house before, you know that finding good tenants is not easy.
I had to make an expensive repair on my car. It was leaking a lot of oil and it was starting to smoke every time I drove it. We took it to a mechanic and it ended up costing almost $700 to get it fixed. This is a lot considering the car is maybe worth 3 times that. We had to pay it though since we are not in a position to buy another car since we got the truck not too long ago. Thankfully, we got most of the repairs fixed with money I have earned form this blog. I can’t tell you how awesome it is to be able to make some money off what I love doing and that is writing for you guys. I count my blessings we were able to do this as we would have been extremely tight this month without it.
My work has moved to a new office and now it is just 8 minutes from my apartment. Hello gas savings! This is great since gas has been climbing in our area and he savings will be appreciated indeed. I can practically bike to work now and I would if it wasn’t still so cold outside. Seriously, what is up with this cold weather? I thought it was spring.
Lastly, I wanted to thank all the great readers who sent well wishes about my dog. We had to put him to sleep last week and its always great to have the kind support of readers in this difficult time. You guys rock! We are talking about adopting another dog but I think we will wait until we are a little more financially stable. I really want a Yorkie but we will just have to wait and see.
