Good News on the Horizon

This week has been action packed to say the least. My boyfriend had been having a tough time at his job lately as he has been having problems with his boss. Basically making a long story short, his boss has been taking advantage of him and it was getting on his nerves for a while. Then, he got a text from a man who had offered him a job in the past as he is once again looking for someone to join his team. Well, he was ready to quit his job and join his team even though there were some concerns. For one, he would have to go back to being an independent contractor. He just reached employee status with his current company which we were very happy about. We were quite frankly sick of the contractor status as it would mean he could be fired at any point, not get unemployment, AND be responsible for his own taxes (we already have to go through that mess come April and tax time). He would also have not been paid an hourly wage but a commission on any work done which has the potential to be very good or bad depending on the month. Despite this, my boyfriend was ready to jump ship because of the way he was being treated.

He finally talked to his boss and explained to her that he was ready to leave if she did not raise his pay. I was on pins and needles that morning as I really did not know what she was going to say. After what seemed like an eternity, he finally called me back and said that he had talked her into giving him a raise, a month’s worth of sick/vacation time, and she was even going to give him a stipend every month to help pay for some of his health insurance. Hooray! Needless to say, he is going to stay with her. They are also talking about doing some profit sharing as he is pulling in a huge amount of business for the company.

I am glad that things are going well for him and we will have some extra cash coming in. This is great timing because we took out the car loan recently and I want to get good life/disability insurance so that we will be protected no matter what. I have looked into getting the policies and it would cost about $70-$80/month for the policies I want.

Side Note: I am thinking of doing a giveaway on my blog. I have done something like this in conjunction with some  other bloggers but now I want to do one solo. I am thinking maybe like $25 paypal cash or maybe an Amazon card. What do guys think? I’d welcome your feedback.
